What is HS Code? A HS Code (or Harmonized System Code) is a six-digit identifier used by customs officials to categorize goods entering or leaving a country. Based on the Harmonized System (HS) of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), this code simplifies international trade by standardizing product classification across countries. Each item is assigned a code that corresponds to its type, which helps in tariff determination and statistical tracking. Senders must include the correct Harmonized Code on documentation to comply with foreign trade regulations.

How is the weight calculated? The billable or chargeable weight of your shipment is determined by comparing both the actual weight and the volumetric (or dimensional) weight, with the higher of the two being used for billing purposes. Volumetric weight is calculated based on the dimensions of the shipping box. For example, if your shipment has an actual weight of 8 kilograms but a volumetric weight of 10 kilograms, you will be charged for 10 kilograms, as it is the higher value. Additionally, we round the final weight to the nearest kilogram. So, if your shipment weighs 8.6 kilograms, it will be rounded up, and you will be charged for 9 kilograms. For further details on how volumetric weight is calculated and applied, feel free to contact us.

What is Dimensional Weight? Dimensional Weight, also known as Volumetric Weight (DIM weight) or cubed weight, is used to determine the chargeable weight of a shipment. It is calculated by multiplying the package's length, width, and height, and then dividing the result by a dimensional weight divisor. It's important to distinguish between Actual Weight, Dimensional Weight, and Chargeable Weight. Actual weight refers to the physical weight of the items in your shipment, whereas Dimensional Weight reflects the space that the items and packaging occupy during transit. The chargeable weight is determined by comparing both, and the higher value is used for billing. To calculate the volumetric weight for courier services, you can use the following formula: Volumetric Weight (kg) = (Length x Width x Height in cm) / 5000 For example, if your package measures 50 cm (Length) x 40 cm (Width) x 30 cm (Height), the calculation would be: Volumetric Weight = (50 x 40 x 30) / 5000 = 12 kg In this scenario, if the actual weight of your package is 8 kilograms and the volumetric weight is 12 kilograms, you will be charged based on the higher value of 12 kilograms. Additionally, weights are rounded to the nearest kilogram. For instance, if the calculated weight is 8.6 kilograms, it will be rounded up to 9 kilograms for billing purposes. If you need more information or assistance with calculating volumetric weight, please feel free to reach out to us!

How Are Shipping Rates Calculated? Calculating shipping rates may seem simple, but it involves more than just the weight and destination of your items. At KWICK KARGO, we consider several factors such as timeline, budget, and level of service to calculate the Dimensional Weight (DIM weight). We ensure transparency and accuracy in our rate calculations, helping you understand the process better.

Are There Any Customs Duties on Shipments from Sri Lanka to Our Destinations? Yes, there may be customs duties imposed by the customs in the destination country, depending on the commodity's value and volume. You can read the terms provided for the country you are importing to while calculating the rates online on our website. When you get your quote from our online system, it will show you all the information related to customs requirements, processes, and procedures, helping you make a more informed decision. If you still need information, on a specific questions about customs duties on certain products, please contact our customer services department via email for more information on the customs duty and clearance process.

What Are KYC Documents? KYC documents are crucial for verifying the shipper’s identity and address. To complete this process, you need to provide two of the following ID proofs: *Passport *PAN Card *Voter's Identity Card *Driving License *Bank Statement or Electricity Bill *Ration Card You can submit your KYC documents by uploading a scanned copy during your online shipment booking or by providing these documents when your shipment is picked up. Please note that without KYC documents, your shipment cannot be processed, as this is a legal requirement.

Do I Get Tracking Service? Absolutely! Once your shipment is picked up and booked, you’ll receive a tracking number and regular email updates. From the moment the carrier is assigned until the final delivery, you'll be informed of every status change. You don’t need to track the package yourself—our system handles it all, sending automatic updates to both the sender and receiver until we receive final delivery confirmation from the carrier.

Do I need a Customs Broker? Customs brokers are often used by importers and exporters to ensure that shipments clear customs efficiently and without delays. They handle any issues that arise and resolve them on your behalf. Most major carriers include brokerage services in their offerings, so they will manage this process for you and inform you directly if additional information or actions are needed by Customs Authorities.

What if Address is Incorrect? A small typo in your address can lead to delivery issues. Our carriers will attempt delivery to the address on the label, and once in transit, changes aren't possible. To avoid problems: a) Enter complete and accurate address details, including Post Code or Zip Code. b) Ensure your sender use the correct labels; other labels may lead to non-delivery or extra charges. c) Delivery to PO Boxes is not available. Packages may be returned or disposed of if: 1) The address doesn’t exist or is incomplete. 2) Incorrect or missing labels/paperwork were not provided. 3) The recipient refuses the package. 4) Prohibited goods are found. Additional charges for returns may apply, depending on the carrier’s rates. For door-to-door services, providing extra details like access codes helps the courier. Always verify your address before placing an order to ensure smooth delivery.

How to package your shipment for transport? For effective and eco-friendly shipping, adopt sustainable packaging practices. Focus on using materials that minimize environmental impact, such as mushroom packaging, and aim to reduce, recycle, renew, and reuse. Avoid over-packaging by selecting appropriately sized boxes and minimizing empty space to prevent unnecessary dimensional weight charges. Opt for compact and sturdy packaging materials that fit your items closely and use minimal, eco-friendly fillers. This approach not only helps reduce your ecological footprint but also avoids additional costs associated with dimensional weight. By integrating these practices, you support a more sustainable shipping process and contribute to a greener future.

How you handling Damaged Parcels? If you receive a damaged parcel, whether it's visibly damaged upon delivery or discovered later, you can seek compensation if you have liability coverage. For externally visible damage, note the details on the waybill or transfer document when you receive the shipment. If damage is discovered after opening, file a written complaint with the carrier within 7 days. Ensure you document the damage, retain all packaging, and follow the carrier's claims procedure. For more details, refer to the carrier’s guidelines or contact their customer service.

What are the restricted items and compensation exclusions at Kwick Kargo? Although Kwick Kargo simplifies shipping for most goods, certain items are more challenging to transport safely. If you send items on our Restricted Items list and they are damaged during transit, compensation will not be available. Restricted items include: i) Furniture ii) Televisions iii) Works of Art iv) Glass or items containing glass v) Liquids vi) Currency vii) China or ceramic items Please be aware that this list is not exhaustive. During the shipment creation process, you will be provided with a complete list of prohibited items that Kwick Kargo does not service for shipping.

Why Was My Package Not Delivered? If your package wasn't delivered, it might be due to one of the following reasons: 1) A signature is required upon delivery. 2) Payment is due at the time of delivery. 3) The package contains restricted or dangerous goods. 4) Security concerns or restrictions prevent delivery. 5) Customs Duties & Taxes might be applicable.

Are There Charges for Rerouting a Package? Yes, rerouting a package may incur additional fees and restrictions. While there is no extra charge for holding packages for pickup instead of delivery, the person authorized to pick up the package will need to present photo I.D. Please note that our guarantee does not cover shipments that are rerouted.

How do I know if my parcel is stuck with customs at destination? To find out if your parcel is delayed with customs at the destination, check the tracking system for updates. If your parcel hasn’t moved for a while, it might be stuck in customs. If you suspect this is the case, first contact the sender for more information. If you’re both the recipient, get in touch with Kwick Kargo for assistance.
